ALCUCOA NATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2024
18-19 July 2024
City College of Angeles
In
coordination with the City College of Angeles and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, the Commission on Accreditation for Local Colleges and Universities (ALCUCOA) announces the call for papers for the 2024 ALCUCOA National Research Conference on 18-19 July 2024 at City College of Angeles.
Conference Theme: Pursuing Global Development through Local Multidisciplinary Education
Given the various issues and setbacks to development brought about by social, political, and economic crises on a global scale in recent years, key actors both local and international find themselves challenged to come up with solutions and effectively address complex questions and problems. In the area of education, the perennial problems of social inequality, poverty, access to quality education, and conflict hinder progress in different societies especially in developing countries. Israel’s war on Gaza, for instance, led to the breakdown of Palestine’s education system as schools and universities were destroyed by military forces. Protracted insecurity in West and Central Africa also continues to cause the closure of schools and therefore the interruption of learning among the youth. These, even as the world’s education systems attempt to fully recover from the difficult experience of the global pandemic.
In our own backyard, the state of the Philippine education system remains dire, characterized by “miseducation” as reported by The Second Congressional Commission on Education or EDCOM2 to refer to the country’s learning crisis, from early childhood education to basic education to tertiary education and technical-vocational education. With such problems painting a gloomy picture of the state of education in the country and beyond, achieving substantial global development seems elusive and certainly needs further and urgent action.
Yet as recent trends and developments in Philippine education show, such needed action potentially comes from the local public higher education sector. By virtue of their mission to provide quality education to students from their localities, among others, local universities and colleges play an important role and are in the position to help address the education crisis and thus contribute to global development. Given their direct access to communities, through research and extension services, they are able to allow for development and opportunities in their areas. Moreover, their diverse and multidisciplinary academic programs and projects also offer ways to navigate complex questions and inquiries.
The panels for the conference could be organized based on the following sub-themes:
- Local Higher Education, Public Policy, and Sustainable Development
- Promoting Health and Wellbeing through Education
- Interdisciplinary Solutions to Complex Social, Economic, and Cultural Issues
- Integrating Business, Leadership, and Educational Technology for Innovation
- Education during Conflict and Emergency Situations
The 2024 ALCUCOA National Research Conference invites papers and presentations from scholars and faculty of local universities and colleges in the Philippines to explore issues, challenges, and topics related to global development and multidisciplinary education at the local level.
